Celebrate life: 10 reasons why life is awesome!
Life can be disappointing sometimes and you can’t avoid it. What you can change, though, is your attitude. If you have a positive attitude, you’ll suddenly notice silver linings everywhere. Celebrate life because it’s wonderful!
Celebrate life
Research shows that we’re happier when we focus on the positive things in life. And that positivity can be found in the smallest things. Like the sun shining through the trees on a beautiful autumn day, a heartfelt compliment from a stranger in the street, or that favourite shirt you suddenly find after thinking you’d lost it for months. Happiness really is found in the little things.
“We’re happier when we focus on the positive things in life.”
Here are some tips to be more positive in life and appreciate the little things
-
- Celebrate the day before it even starts. When you wake up, don’t immediately grab your phone. Nope, think about how today is going to be and what makes you happy. A good dream? A nice warm bed? Seeing your favourite colleague at work today?
- Show your gratitude. Be aware when people do nice things for you and thank them for it. Receive compliments and give them in return!
- There are no peaks without valleys. Sure, obstacles can be hard, but you’ll build resilience in return. So be thankful for the difficult times, as you can learn from them and will probably become stronger because of them.
- Keep a journal every day in which you write down the positive things that happened that day. You may think that nothing happened for which you can be grateful, but if you really make an effort, you’ll see that there’s a lot to be thankful for!
- Don’t go to bed angry. And don’t go to bed sad or down either. Read your journal of positive things again. Or think back to the best part of the day… soak up those feelings, and we’ll bet you’ll fall asleep with a smile.
Besides the little things that make life a party, there are a few more things that deserve your attention. And we’ve listed them for you!
1. You are healthy
Your health is important: sometimes you only realise this when someone close to you is ill or when you’ve fallen ill yourself. Embrace your health as your most valuable asset and take good care of yourself by eating well, exercising, and taking enough time for yourself. Watching Netflix for hours on end? Check! Are you not feeling well? Then think about how beautiful the time was when you were healthy and never take it for granted again. (And, get well!)
2. Life is full of discoveries
Nowadays, we have unlimited options for exploring the world. If not in real life, then online. And that’s unique, as our grandparents didn’t get further than the village in which they lived. Times are so different now. You can visit world-famous museums online, read all about your favourite band, and fly to the other side of the world for a bargain.
“You can discover the whole world. If not in real life, then online.”
3. You’ve felt love
Even though you’re young, you’ve probably felt love before. It doesn’t matter if that was a teenage crush that only lasted a few weeks: you’ve experienced it. Those tingles in your stomach during the first kiss, your first time having sex. And you’ll experience it many more times!
4. Your life has a purpose
From helping an older person to being a good friend, your life has a purpose. You are here to help others, just as others can help you. Some people think that their life has no purpose, because they don’t have an extremely exciting job, haven’t saved any lives, or haven’t seen much of the world. But having a purpose is about much more than that! And you know, even if you think you don’t have a purpose in your life yet, that’s totally okay too. You may not always be aware of it, but for many people, you’re much more important than you think. And unconsciously you make their lives better, more beautiful, more enjoyable, or easier. And that’s simply incredible!
5. Summer will always show its face again
The days may be grey and dreary now, but in a little while, the flowers will come out again and the sun will start shining. Hello bikini, festivals, and short skirts! And until then, you can enjoy these cosy wintery vibes, curled up on the couch with a blanket and some candles.
6. You decide your own happiness
We live in a world where a lot of bad things happen, but there’s always one factor that’s positive, and that’s you. Yes, of course you can be down or negative sometimes, but remember that you have little influence on anything except your own thoughts and the way you deal with things. So try to use your positive thoughts and see something beautiful in everything! And be kind to yourself. Create your own happiness!

7. There’s so much to look forward to
Life is special: you never know what your future holds, although you probably have dreams for the future. Perhaps you want to live self-sufficiently in a self-built tiny house. Or maybe your dream is to live a nomadic life in a foreign country. The good thing is: it’s never too late to embrace new experiences.
8. You already have a lot of special memories
Your first concert, your first kiss, but also family vacations and the nice moments with your girlfriends: you have already experienced many special things. They don’t have to be these major milestones. Even the tradition that your family watches the same film every year at Christmas is a warm memory.
“You’ve been through a lot of extraordinary things.”
9. Appreciate your social safety net
Life is more beautiful with fine people around you. Cherish your family and friends. And appreciate other people in your social safety net: a teacher at school, a colleague, or your gym buddy. Feeling lonely? Try to actively seek contact with others. It can be scary at first, but also satisfying.
10. You live in a free world
If you live in Europe, you can generally consider yourself very lucky. The right to education, freedom, a roof over your head and a full fridge: there are places where people don’t have these things. In our country, you can express your opinion, be who you are and do what you want. And that’s a great thing!
